Hey ,
KVPY is the entrance test for getting into IISc , IISERs that are extremely reputed institutes. A score of 5.5 in the KVPY exam is unfortunately not enough to get selected for the interview. There are 3 streams , i.e, SA,SB,SX for different categories. SA is for 11th grade , SX for 12th and SB for first year undergraduation. However the cutoff through any category and stream isnt sufficient.

The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojna (KVPY) is a national program funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. It is organised by the Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc) to attract students who aim to pursue basic science courses and research careers in science. Students enrolled in grade 11 (Stream SA), grade 12 - science subjects (Stream X) and 1st-year undergraduate programs like B.Sc/B.Stat/B.Math, etc. (Stream SB) are eligible for the exam.
The syllabus for the different streams are:
Stream SA: covers all topics and chapters of class 10 and 11.
Stream SX: covers all topics and chapters of class 10, 11 and 12.
Stream SB: covers all topics and chapters of class 10, 11 and 12 along with
the syllabus of the 1st-year UG course.
As you must have noticed the syllabus of Stream SA and SX are similar to the syllabus of JEE Main and other competitive exams necessary for a B. Tech degree. So, if you are aiming to give one of these competitive exams, there is no harm in giving KVPY a try as well. This will help you understand where you stand in the process of preparation for the competitive exams and also help you understand the difficulty level of the questions appearing in the exam, thereby, enhancing your chances of getting into a good college to acquire your B. Tech degree.
After all, Practice makes Perfect.
Hope you found this to be useful.
HI Shubham!
KVPY exam is for the admission in IISc, IISER, IIITs and CVCE with Fellowship during basic science Studies and Free Entry to all National Libraries in India. Also, there are various streams under KVPY, but SA stream is for students who are currently pursuing 11th class.
But with KVPY you can cannot get admission in IIT. To get admission in IIT a candidate have to first qualify JEE MAINS and then JEE Advanced. JEE MAINS is conducted for 4 times a year and JEE ADVANCED is conducted once a year. You can check it out here:
https://engineering.careers360.com/articles/how-get-admission-in-iits
Yeah definitely like, there is hardly any relation between KVPY and your studying Engineering. Ive seen my classmates from school/coaching failing to clear JEE Advanced in spite of an excellent performance in KVPY, while Ive seen my batchmates at IIT KGP, studying at IIT despite failing at KVPY.
Of course, KVPY does give a boost to your Resume as well as increases you confidence for preparation. Doesnt mean you wont clear Engineering Entrance exams, if you fail at KVPY.
Perhaps focus on completing the JEE Syllabus well before JEE Mains next Year, take a proper Test Series and make you preparation more of a strategy than blunt hardwork.
Yeah, at the same time Target Other Good Entrance Exams like BITSAT and COMEDK besides JEE.
