Hello,
most universities journalism entrance exams have a similar structure, but the syllabus and pattern may differ from one institute to the other. Generally, it’s a two part paper where in the first part tests the language skills of the applicants. The second part tests current affairs and general knowledge. There are often tests to check the writing skills and analytical rational of aspirants. Some institutes screen students via interviews as well, after they are shortlisted through the written entrance exam.
With a plethora of books available in the market, it becomes very confusing to decide that which one you should rely on. There is not much need for these exams though, but they can help you in getting acquainted with some of the basic concepts. Here is a list of few books you can refer to:-
Guide to Journalism and Mass Communication Entrance Exam (IIMC, Jamia etc.)
How to crack IIMC Entrance Exam.
Success Master: Journalism and Mass Communication.
Word Power made easy by Norman Lewis. General Knowledge Digest by TMH. Manorama Yearbook 2018 - Useful for current affairs and general knowledge.
once you clear the written exams, many colleges have an interview session to check your confidence, eligibility, knowledge and most importantly communications skills. You must follow reputed journalists on news channels and should watch English and Hindi news channels to develop your vocabulary and knowledge on current affairs. Channels such as Times Now, CNN IBN, NDTV might help you. Also, anchors such as Arnab Goswami, Rajdeep Sardesai ,Vikram Chandra, Anubha Bhonsle may inspire and help you develop new perspectives on some of the issues in Indian Journalism.
hope this helps you !
all the best
See according to me if you talk about merit then go for Jamia Milia Islamia as it offers best in terms of mass communication. Prepare for that entrance if you have the ability and go for it.
In case if you are not ready for this entrance stuff and all then aaft in film city noida is best in private institutions for mass communication.
Talking about the exam pattern first, the ftii exam is of 100 marks. The paper is divided into two sections. Section 1 consists of GK and current events questions so you should be thorough with whats happening around you. The weightage varies between 20-25 Marks. Then comes the 2nd section which is the most important and challenging. There might be essay writing between a father and son regarding some issue (eg). Or there might be a question which requires you to describe the sounds that you hear while sitting in a classroom. This section mainly focuses on evaluating you on the basis of your imagination power and your creativity. Hope this answer helps you :). All the best.
