If there are just 15–30 days for your exam, it's time to work smart. So instead of giving you the entire syllabus (which is available on the website), I will just list out the topics that will make an appearance in the exam for sure.

Focus specifically on the following topics-

1. Energy cycles- the steps, enzymes, total output of energy.
2. Oxidative phosphorylation in detail
3. Lipid cycle
4. Photosynthesis, C4, CAM pathway is very important!

1. Enzyme kinetics- vmax, km (Trevor Palmer is the best for enzymology)
2. Central dogma of molecular biology (study the the enzyme and the role it plays in each step)
3. DNA repair, recombination- very important
4. Gene mapping, mendelian genetics, non-mendalian genetics - focus on blood group problems and inheritance patterns

Igenetics by Russell, Peter explains these in an easy way. Solve the problems at the back of each chapter.

1. Immunology - MHC, antibody structure, complement pathway, vaccines, auto-immune disorders

1. Medical Microbiology- bacteria and their morphology, culture techniques, media they grow in, diseases they cause, mechanism, prevention and treatment. Study only the important bacteria like Mycobacterium sp., Vibrio, streptomyces, staphylococcus, Anthrax. In viruses, study HIV, life cycle of T4 phage.

Ananthnarayan - any edition

1. Antibiotics mechanism and their mode of resistance. I cannot stress on how important this particular topic is.

Refer to Microbiology by Tortora for this

1. Go through your notes on citric acid, penicillin and beer-wine production
2. Learn a few formulas for fermentation.

Cover these topics and you shall pass the exam with flying colors. Make sure you are calm and focused while writing the exam, as a chaotic mind can make a lot of careless mistakes.

MSc Microbiology and Virology both the courses are good and have great scope in near future. It's difficult to differentiate them. The candidate should have Bachelor's degree under 10+2+3/4/5 pattern of education in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Bio-technology, Agricultural, Veterinary, Fishery & Dairy Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine (MBBS), BDS, Bioinformatics, Genetics, Medical Laboratory Technology Sciences, BHMS, BAMS, B. Tech./B.E. Biotechnology, Physiotherapy or Bio-medical Engineering with at least 50% marks as aggregate of all the semester / years.

if you possess bachelor's degree in any of the mentioned subject you can apply to this course. It is not mandatory to have chemistry at bachelor's degree.

in iit kharagpur course curriculum is awesome for msc phd course of molecular microbiology, however most of the students opts for higher studies or research fellow position in abroad after completing the course. some of the students go for teaching career, if you want to make career in  research and development , you need to apply in abroad companies which hires microbiologist. after completing the course some of the career option available is,
