You can change your branch in 2nd year provided two things:

1. There is a vacancy in the branch you opted for the change.

2. The most important one, you are at least in top 3 in your branch(The number might change, possibly with an increment though).

So if you are entering KNIT with the mindset of changing your branch in 2nd year, just remember you need to study hard enough for the semesters.
