The United States of America is nine hours and  thirtee minutes behind India. If today is Monday and the time is 11:31 AM,then in the United states it is 2:01 AM.
The United States have eleven time zones.
The reason for difference in time is that every part of the earth receives sunlight at different interval of time and hence a standard time is needed for every zone.

Dear Rahul, USA follows Eastern Time Zone which is usually 4-6 hours lesser than the Greenwich Mean Time  and India follows India Standard Time where in the Time zone is 5.30 hours added to the Greenwich Mean Time. So, there is almost 10 hours time difference between India and the US. And there are quite a couple of time zones within the US. But in General, Washington DC time zone is considered for relevance and India is 9hours and 30 minutes ahead of Washington's time. So, the day in US depends on what time of the day is it in India. For example, if it is 8.20pm IST in India, it is 10.50am in the US of the same day. But if you go back like may be 8-13 hours back, and say if it is 8.20am IST in India, it is not the same day in the US.
