In 2018 - As per the seat matrix released by the state government, only 12 of the 100 seats in the college were available for open category students - rest all were reserved ( 3 SC/ST, 1 MCI/Central Government nomination and 84 for church sponsored candidates).

Out of 12 open seats - The first student to pick CMC was Raj Chendur Abhishek with a NEET score of 656. The last student to get admission in CMC under open category was Nanditha Vinodh S, who had a NEET score of 595. In 2017 CMC Vellore took only one student for the whole class. This first-year student is the only medical aspirant to be admitted into the 2017 batch for an undergraduate MBBS course that usually hosts about 100 pupils. CMC admitted only one candidate in UG this academic year under the defence ministry quota as it suspended admission for the remaining seats, as an expression of its displeasure over common counselling based on NEET scores.
