Correct Answer: Lord Hardinge

Solution : The correct answer is Lord Hardinge.

When Delhi was chosen as the new capital of British India in 1911, it was relocated from Calcutta. The decision was taken while Lord Hardinge served as Viceroy of India. Many feel that this change hampered Kolkata's growth as an industrial centre because of the imbalance it created in the region. Two main reasons led to the decision to relocate the imperial capital from Calcutta to Delhi. Act of 1909 regarding Indian Councils, the continuous turmoil brought on by Bengal's partition.
