Admissions in JMI take place on the basis of JEE mains rank but you have to register for the councelling process.

No you don't have to qualify JEE MAINS. But you should hold the diploma in an engineering stream recognized by AICTE or a state board of technical education of 3-4 years of duration with at least 55% marks.
