Hello, Both the subjects deals with mostly the theory part sand hence you need to understand and memorize a lot of information. While we may have had only a little exposure to geology during our schoolings a major part was dedicated to geography studying about the physical properties of earth while geology deals with history of formation of earth.

As far as pay concerned in India both careers are recruited in government sectors and the average pay is around 5,50,000 per year for both sectors. Geologists will be recruited in mines department while geography  candidate  will be recruited in construction works departments predominantly.
