Hi, I'm from B.tech in Civil final year. I'm much interested in ES. I want to choose 2nd paper as ES in gate in 2022. So is it possible to get IIT if I score very less in primary choice (Civil) but good enough in secondry paper i.e (In Environmental Science and Engineering)?

Hi, if you are looking forward to do masters in ES then you will have to work hard for paper 2 and not paper 1 that is Civil. The concept of 2 papers is you get to apply with both the GATE score card and whichever gets selected you can enroll through that. Yes, you can get into IITs if you have good score in ES and not in Civil as it won't matter much. So, my best bet would be that you concentrate on your paper2. Thank you.
