National Institute of Technology Srinagar was established in 1960 under the Government of India. NIT Srinagar achieved the status of Deemed University in August 2003.

As per placements, National Institute of Technology Srinagar has a training and placement cell to organise the placement procedure for the students. Students are also provided training programmes on personality development and communication skills and help them prepare better for the recruitment process. In 2018-19 session, the median salary was 7.3 LPA while that of 2017-18 was 5.84 LPA.
