In Anna university, the aggregate scores of physics, mathematics and chemistry will be considered during admission. 50 percent of you physics and chemistry and 100 percent of your mathematics marks will be considered. The total is out of 200. The cut off for the main campus (Guindy campus) is pretty high. Usually in the range of 196 or above.

Also the admissions are based in various entrance exams such as TANCET, TNEA, TANATA.

The 50% marks is the minimum eligibility, if you are getting more than 85 or above 90% it would be really good for the admission.

The counselling process for the Anna university is done in accordance with TNEA.  The University offers 15 specialisations in BE and 11 in B. Tech. For a CBSE student,  the eligibility criteria is set as follows :

1. For admission in BE,  the candidates must have scored at least 50 percent of marks (aggregate)  in Physics, chemistry and mathematics as the primary subjects
2. For admission in B. Tech programme, the candidates must have passed their class 12th board examinations from a recognized board (ICSE,  CBSE,  or any other state board) . There must be atleast 50 percent of marks (aggregate) in their board exam.
