I passed 12th Science with PCM, Now I want to choose Automobile Engineering, then I have to choose Diploma Automobile Engineering at there or any other section for Science student??

Automobile engineering is a Professional course you can surely go for a diploma course but my suggestion would be that you should devote yourself to an undergraduate course through a good college.

An undergraduate program will definitely provide you an edge over a diploma course.

Eligibility to become Automobile Engineer


To become an automobile engineer, a candidate must have passed class 12th or equivalent examination with science stream (Physics, Chemistry and Maths). Candidates must have also appeared for national-level engineering entrance exams. Some candidates also pursue M.Tech in automotive/automobile engineering for better job prospects and salary packages.

Subject Combination - PCM i.e. Physics, Chemistry and Maths

Eligibility -

For Undergraduate Courses:

  • Candidate must have passed class 12th or equivalent examination from a recognised board with a minimum aggregate of 75%. However, the minimum aggregate rules vary from category to category.
  • Must have a valid engineering entrance exam score
  • Few engineering colleges also follow age criteria.

For Postgraduate Courses:

  • To pursue a postgraduate course in automobile engineering, candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in the respective field i.e.B.Tech/ B.E. in automobile/automotive engineering from a recognized university along with a valid GATE score.


Types of Job Roles Automobile Engineer


After attaining a relevant degree in automobile engineering, there are a plethora of automobile engineering job profiles in various sectors. Listed below are some of the popular automobile engineering job profiles:

Automobile Engineer: Their job responsibility is to design, manufacture and operate automobiles. It incorporates elements of mechanical, electrical, software and safety engineering as applied to design and manufacture buses, bikes, trucks and other vehicles and machines.

Automobile Designer: Their job responsibility to design the appearance, components and parts of automobiles and road vehicles such as cars, trucks, motorbikes and buses. Apart from this, their job includes the functional development of the vehicle including the mechanical, electrical, software, electronic, and safety aspects.

Car Designer: Car designers often work with automobile engineers to create innovative ideas for designing new automobiles. The job role of the car designer is just limited to a new designing made to make it functional so that it appeals to consumers. Apart from that, they also have to make sure their design is environmentally friend and affordable.

Executive and Managerial Positions: Many top-level automobile engineers occupy executive and managerial positions in various MNCs and the corporate world.
