The Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai was established in 1933 as University of Bombay's University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT). Since then, the institute has evolved as a centre of knowledge for chemical technology, chemical engineering, pharmacy, biotechnology, applied chemistry, and bio-processing.

ICT Mumbai ranked 4th in pharmacy institutions, 18th among engineering institutes, 34th overall, and 18th amidst universities as per the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2020.
