India won the first medal in the Olympics in 1900 at the Paris Olympics in Athletics. The first gold medal was won in 1928 at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics.

He also won gold in 1932 and 1948 in the men's field hockey team event. The first individual gold medalist in India was Abhinav Bindra, who won the gold medal in shooting at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Recently, Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
