If you have interest in data science, IT security, software solutions management, IT infrastructure management and if you want to genuinely pursue career in IT then mechanical engineering will not be an obstacle. Because learning will help you achieve what you want.

Also having an IT background is not mandatory as the eligibility criteria says any graduation with minimum 50%.

The placements are also good. Think of where you want to see yourself and take your decision.
