RGIPT is a central government Institute. It was set up by The ministry of petroleum under an act of Parliament as an Institute of National Importance. RGIPT is being mentored by IIT Kanpur.  It offers diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in science, engineering and management. Offering a total of 26 courses, RGIPT also provides scholarship and placement support for its students.
