It is up to you to decide whether you want a tag or not . It is just a trend among engineering students of different colleges to brand their college . Nothing wrong in that , but you should see which branch you are getting in the NIT.

If you're getting IIIT Hyderabad , Bangalore , they are one of the best institutes for computer science in India . Benefits of studying in well established colleges like top nit and iiit matter , as they have a good alumni network and better placement statistics .

Just see which colleges offers better academics , placements and return of investment and choose that , be it NIT or IIIT . Some of the old Nit's and IIIT's are on an equal level as they offer good overall experience , be it academics or placements . But be sure to choose carefully which branch you want , as it would be the one in which you would begin your career and college life .
