The placements in the metallurgical engineering branch in NIT Rourkela are pretty decent. The average package for the metallurgical engineering branch is around 6lpa where about 80 to 85 percent students get placed. The companies visiting for placement can be categorised in two: Core and Non core.

List of core companies:  Vedanta Imerys, TRL krosaki refractories ltd., Tata sponge iron limited, Jindal stainless limited, Midhani(PSU), Bhushan power and steel limited, Uttam galva (off campus), Meritor(off campus).Companies like Tata steel, Tata tinplate, Tata bluescope steel, Hindalco also visit.

List of non core companies:Future first, ZS associates, Affine analytics, Tredence, Mu sigma, EXL Services, Wipro etc.

Metallurgy students were also eligible to sit in a few IT companies and educational institute such as Aakash, ibooks,resonance, allen etc.The packages depend upon the company it may vary from 3.5 to 10 lpa.

But, one thing is sure that NITR being the premier institute of India, it has got one of the oldest Metallurgical department with excellent infrastructure and supporting faculty member.
