Infrastructure of the college and its location would bring serenity and peace for students to concentrate. The beauty of the campus cannot be described in words it must be experienced. NIT is located near the hills in Panposh region of Rourkela. Regarding academic aspects, institute provides various departments of engineering and research for aspirants. Each department has its own goal in sculpting the bright engineers to serve the nation. Various facilities in the laboratories would bring students closer to the practical way of the working industries and laboratories in the country.

The pleasure in struggle

The Institute could provide jobs to most of the students with a decent ROI. Problems with good companies visiting the Institute for placements is its remote location. Though my subject was mostly theoretical, some of the faculties did an excellent job by blending theory with numericals, so as to capture the interest of us students. Talent in every field, from academics to games and sports to extra-curricular is always welcomed and motivated. One of the very best thing about the Institute is its campus which is beautiful and has boards containing quotes from great men to keep the students optimistic and motivated. It really helped me during my bad days as well as good ones!

Likely Satisfied with the college and decent Placements

Batch of 2019 | B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering
Placements : The placements in NITR, especially for CSE branch were really good and almost 90% of our batch were placed. The average package was 7 LPA. Most of the job profiles were for "Software Engineer". Well-known companies like Microsoft, Codenation, Amazon, DE Shaw, Goldman Sachs had offered placements in NITR. Almost every company which came for placements used to conduct interviews for internships too, so it is a pretty good opportunity to learn about the IT industries before getting into the real-time fields. Infrastructure : NIT's one of the best infrastructure-oriented campuses you will find in India. All kinds of sports are available from land to water. Indoor to outdoor etc. Although, being a south Indian, I was never satisfied with the food but still it was not all bad. There are plenty of hostels to accommodate the whole college strength and the rooms are well maintained but are not very good looking since they were built many years ago. Hi-speed internet connections (both Ethernet and Wi-Fi) are available with a pretty good bandwidth. Faculty : Of course, the faculty here is the best of its kind, although, to be honest, there are a few who are not up to the mark, anyways this is the scenario in every engineering college. The curriculum is well designed to keep the students busy and to be good at what he/she is doing. (Of course, not everyone follows it as it should be). The everyday curriculum includes a few classroom teachings and a lab session and the number of classes and credits for the subjects are different for different semesters. (8 semesters:- 1 mid-sem and 1 end-sem examination for a semester). Other : Engineering is the stage in your life where you find your true self, your passion, and the most importantly, a bunch of unforgettable memories. The universities you study in play a very important role for it and NITR is one of those places where you can cherish those wonderful memories for the rest of your lives. The student formed communities, clubs, dance troops, sports teams, and what not, will help you in developing your career and your personality.

NIT Rourkela has recently taken massive leaps in terms of infrastructure. There still is a lot of construction happening, with a number of new hostels and academic wings coming up. There’s a very unique thing about NIT Rourkela. While students don’t doubt the quality of the professors, they concede that the faculty ‘isn’t really taken seriously’. Students tend to just ‘hear the professors out’, but not pay too much attention to anything they say. The placements do suffer a little due to the lack of a major airport near Rourkela. However, that doesn’t mean that the placements are bad; not at all! NIT Rourkela has a rule that states that no company offering a package of less than 3.2 lacs per annum is allowed to participate in the placement process, and yet it manages to get all of its students placed.

It is a good one. The infrastructure is too good. The campus scenic views steal everyone's hearts. Coming to the cons.. The town doesn't have an airport, making it not possible for bigger companies to visit for placements. The placement record isnt that good. The attendance system is a bit strict. The academic syllabus needs to be optimised for each branch. But the studying environment is good. Club culture and everything is good too. But overall its good. I like it.

NIT Rourkela helps every student to realize their dream and passion. well I would like to speak about placement scenario especially. Our institutes is one of the very few colleges which has dual degree option. So placement scenario for dual degree is very bad especially for students in departments like metallurgy, chemical, mining etc. Other than that every opportunity provided by this institute to its students is excellent

It provides a good platform to start any sort of work and gives a good referential aspect but it also has the most hectic curriculum and less time for the students. Infrastructure is good and a peaceful serene, professors are good with a lot of experience and stuff. Overall it's a good institute but can be made better with its curriculum and way of the exam pattern to keep up with this changing world.

The best facility provided by my college is the infrastructure. One out of twenty faculty are so strict that it would be a nightmare to pass that particular course. The academic schedule is pretty comfortable but one thing which is to be highlighted is the jogging exercise where the distance should be reduced.

Being an NITR engineer

This 1200 acre campus promises a very eventful and memorable years of it long after you leave it. The strict attendance and grading system does not let one get any loose with his/her scholastic duties. At the same time it has over 100 clubs at which you can invest for your other interests.

My experiment with NIT Rourkela

Batch of 2015 | B.Tech Ceramic Engineering
NIT Rourkela has recently taken massive leaps in terms of infrastructure. There still is a lot of construction happening, with a number of new hostels and academic wings coming up. Special mention of the excellent biotech and biomed departments must be made, although most of the other departments are also coming up with new buildings. The old hostels aren’t in the best of shapes and aren’t terribly comfortable, but it’s manageable, at least for boys. For girls, though, it’s a different story – as many as FIVE girls need to share one room, because there just aren’t enough hostels for girls. And yes, it can get very ugly indeed. The infrastructure otherwise is quite good. The library is excellent, and has more books than one can bargain for. There are also facilities for all sports, including a swimming pool. There are a couple of gymnasiums as well. The college also has a doctor-on-call, who treats students free of cost, as well as an Apollo Dispensary which students have free access to.

As per a management college, it doesn't come under the premier ones. but with the kind of fee structure with industry experienced faculties and a good infrastructure, college is making its name in the Business school listing. Classroom study is heavily influenced by real life case studies and live projects in each semester. apart from this regular Fest and departmental functions keep the students energized throughout the course.

The college has the pretty good infrastructure. Placement wise it has a good record and it has come a long way since management has been introduced in 2010. But package wise it still needs to improvise. College life is awesome. Even though faculties are less compared to other prestigious colleges but the faculties we have are more than worthy. We do have visiting professors the time which the classes might stretch from morning to night .

According to me, Nit Rourkela is the best option for developing ourselves through involving in technical/cultural/sports clubs , student activity centre nd many other extra circular activities. Institute culture nd environment is very good. All the faculty will be friendly. Infrastructure nd hostels are top. But in the case of food sometimes we have to adjust. *Before selecting a particular branch in any institute, enquire about it and select it.

Premium college with one of the best infrastructure

Batch of 2013 | B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering
The college has one of the biggest campuses in India with a separate building for each department of engineering. The departments have adequate research equipment as well as a workshop to enhance research skills of the students. There is the ceramic department which is second after IIT,Kharagpur. The faculty is very well versed with most of them having completed PhDs and have many research papers in their name. There is even a management wing which has started 4 years back. There is a big sound proofed auditorium as well as an open amphitheatre for various activities happening all around the year.It also has 10 hostels for various BTech, MTech, and Ph.D. scholars among which one hostel is dedicated to girls. There are also quarters for the faculty. There is a dispensary with a medical store close to it as well 2 guest houses(1 AC and 1 non-AC). There are 3 ATMs as well as an SBI bank branch on campus. There is also a post office on campus. It has 3 mini restaurants, Amul Parlor, Saloon, and Stationery shop. It has a Gym,stadium and a swimming pool which is one of the best I have come across. The curriculum is very rigorous and it leads to the growth of knowledge base. The Institute has 3 major events all around the year Cultural Fest(NITRUTSAV),TechFest(Innovision),ISM(International Students Meet) which are attended by many colleges.Apart from this many other activities happen all around the year organised by various clubs guided by faculties all around the year. Placements are quite decent and near about 90% placements is achieved on campus. Improvements Though the curriculum the is quite rigorous it is not very industry oriented which makes the students bit aloof from what is going on around the industry. The gym equipment are very old and improved with time. The students and faculty don't gel so much many times due to which cohesive learning is missed out. Many times it demotivates students for thinking out of the box and hence research and other things are hampered.Cultural activities are thought to be extraneous part and hence overall development is not achieved. Internship opportunities are not that extensive due to which industry exposure for students become limited.

Even though a number of professors don’t completely agree with the insane attendance rules, the new director has ensured that they are followed to the last word. Students are expected to maintain 85 (yes, eighty-five) percent attendance! If you bunk/miss a couple of practicals (labs) or about 4-5 lectures, more often than not you’re given a ‘Back’ in the particular subject. Depressing statistics at NIT Rourkela.

There isn’t much to do in Rourkela, the college has a number of places to keep the students busy. The Student Activity Centre (SAC) is a common place you’ll find a number of students while there are also some small restaurants and coffee shops in and around the campus. There’s no multiplex in Rourkela, and even the theatre is in a real mess. There are a few picturesque spots nearby, but be warned – these places aren’t terribly safe. We won’t say much more, but there have been some scary incidents.

The one thing that really stands out at NIT Rourkela is the regionalism. Home-students (students from the state of Orissa) tend to mingle only with each other, and almost go out of their way to speak only in Oriya, even with professors! Needless to say, this doesn’t go down too well with the other students, but they come to accept it over a period of time. Also, the girl/boy ratio is awful – about 1:10 in most classes.
