The Government of Odisha founded the Odisha University of Technology and Research (Formerly CET) in Bhubaneswar in 1981 to satisfy the State's expanding technical manpower needs. It has been a constituent college of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar, since its foundation. As of July 9, 2002, the college became a constituent college of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Odisha, as per Section 37(1) of the BPUT Act, 2002.
