What is Automotive Engineering?
Automotive engineering is a branch of engineering. The discipline deals with designing, manufacturing, developing and testing the vehicles right from thought to production. Have you been always inquisitive about how vehicles work? Did you always want to design and manufacture automobiles? Then, this is your perfect choice. As an automotive engineer, the vehicle is your brainchild, and you get to develop it according to your abilities and creativity.
Many colleges offer automotive engineering courses in India. The course studies the manufacturing and developing of automobiles.
Automotive engineering offers a variety of specialisations that you could take up once you are through with your fundamentals. Some of them include aerodynamics, ergonomics, rapid prototyping, manufacturing and many others.
Once you complete an automotive engineering course, you will be employed as a Design Engineer, Software Engineer, automobile Engineer and so on.
Eligibility Criteria For Automotive Engineering at UG level
Students should have completed their 10th and 12th from a recognised board and institution.
They should have obtained a minimum of 50% at the 10+2 level.
Only students who have had a background in science can apply.
Entrance is largely based on the entrance examinations. Colleges usually ask for the JEE scores.
A personal interview round could also take place.
Eligibility Criteria For Automotive Engineering at PG level
Students should have completed their Bachelor’s in Engineering with a minimum of 50%.
Entrance examinations like GATE determine your admission.
Further, interviews could be conducted to finalise the admission.
Getting into a good college requires dedication and determination. The aspirants would have to prepare for the all India engineering entrance examinations. Here are some of the entrance exams for automotive engineering that you should prepare for.
JEE Main- It is a national level entrance exam conducted for selecting students into the Engineering course. It is one of the most competitive exams conducted in India. Students with high scores in this exam get admitted to the most prestigious engineering colleges in the country.
JEE Advanced- This is the second level of JEE. After clearing the mains, students have to appear for the JEE Advanced. This ensures fair screening of students into the programme.
GATE- GATE is an all India Entrance exam conducted jointly by IISc and the IIT’s. The scores in GATE determine your admission into the Master’s programme into the top colleges for Engineering.
BITSAT- It is an entrance examination conducted by Birla Institute of Technology and Science. The exam is part of the admission process for the undergraduate programme.
KCET- Karnataka Common Entrance Test is conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority. It is a state-level entrance exam.
These are some of the popular entrance examinations. Besides these, there are other examinations conducted by various colleges.
Automotive Engineering Scope in India and Abroad
India is a hub for engineers. It’s one of the most popular career paths. So, as much as it is the preferred route, there is a large competition. The career in automotive engineering is very creative and evolves at a fast pace. In the engineering field, automotive engineering happens to be the most preferred.
The industry is extremely diverse and sees intense competition. The scope of automotive engineering is extremely high in this country. Outside India, the scope for engineering is as good as that in India. Germany, China, Japan, and the U.S are the top automobile manufacturers. Working in these countries would create a lot of job opportunities.

Hi aspirant,
You asked about MIT campus of Anna University.
Look, MIT is a government college & that's why the quality is still maintained. MIT college rules are a little more strict when compared to other ones so distractions can be reduced to a considerable level. College timing is also upto around 4:30 PM from 8:30 AM. Lab facilities & other infrastructures are enough offered by the college.
Automotive engineering scopes:
The job opportunity as an Automobile Engineers is increases due to rapid growth of auto componentcomponents in automobile sector.
The automotive industry is very diverse, intensely competitive & highly globalized. So many vehicle producers turn out hundreds of models, which change at regular intervals.
Generally, an automotive engineer designs new machines and improves the performance of already existing machines. An Automotive Engineer can work in national and multinational automobile companies, Defense services, Service stations & Private transport companies.
Rubber engineering scopes:
India is on 2nd position in case of population after China. And every person have desire for have own car or vehicles and for this more rubber technologist required to design tyre, hose, v- belts & many more for its better performance. And most interesting fact is that only a little no. of colleges in India offering rubber technology course. Now you can see the of rubber technology in future.
Hope it helps!!
