Hi Harshvardhan
I am assuming you are in class 10th and looking forward to make a wise decision in choosing the right stream. Law in itself is a very unique field. The syllabus for law entrance exam, CLAT, requires logic, common sense, and a practical approach in solving problems.
The stream you choose after 12th will set the base for your long term goals and not just an entrance exam. If you choose Commerce, then basic concepts in accountancy will help you to deduce better understanding and interpretation of Companies Act 2013 along with other business laws. On the other hand, if you choose Humanities having combinations like political science, sociology , history etc., you will have an edge in your first year of B.A.(LL.B.).
CLAT entrance is just a begining step to enter the legal world. Commerce will actually prove to be more prominent stream since law is a branch of commerce, and you will have immense back up options like Company Secretary , Charatered Accountancy etc, in future. Rest is all dependent on your interests. Business, numbers, corporate all these come under Commerce, whereas Psychology, history, political science, sociology are covered under Arts.
CLAT exam comprises of 5 sections namely,
1. Verbal Ability (English) which includes Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary and Understanding of Grammar.
2. Quantitative Aptitude (Maths) which is Basic elementary maths that you have studied till class X focussing much on number system, mensuration, algebra, simple and compound interest.
3.General Awareness and current Affairs which you prepare from updated external sources.
4. Reasoning is all about practice and your mental ability to solve questions, which obviously sharpens as you keep practising.
5. Legal Aptitude: This section aims to judge your legal interest and problem solving abilities with respect to law. This is the only section where commerce can aid you by briefing a little about law. Legal reasoning and legal knowledge about some basic laws such as contract law, constitutional law and family law is of utmost importance in this section.
So if you analyse, stream sets your standard for long term and has nothing to do with CLAT exam. Choose wisely on the basis of your interest and if you can balance well between boards and entrance exam preparation. If logics and numbers are your strength then accounts is the only subject that will require your time and attention in Commerce, otherwise if your theory and learning is strong then go with Humanities. But final decision rests solely on your interest.
PREPARATION:
For any entrance examination, one needs to follow a step by step methodology to complete the preparation. Do not rely on short cuts or summarized books for preparation. To score well it is important that your basics and hold is strong in all the sections. Prepare a time table where you devote equal time for all subjects daily. Study all subjects simultaneously because it is important that you keep pace in all areas and ensure that you don't forget the previous preparation.By looking at the syllabus, one can analyse easily the areas where you are familiar with the concepts and areas where you need to start everything afresh. Take your time to clear your concepts and then its all about practising as many questions as you can.
All the best!
Hey,
The first thing you got to be sure of is that Law is your calling.Talk to people who are working in this field.Ask them about their experiences and then decide whether you actually have passion to be a lawyer. Class 11th is a crucial stage of our life.We go through several changes and most of the times do things out of usual interest and end up taking a drop after 12th. So be sure you genuinely want study law.
See,there are instances when people get through CLAT just in few weeks or few months. So giving two years for cracking CLAT would not make much difference. You can use this time to explore yourself.Give time to yourself and your studies and try to build up those qualities that will help you ace CLAT.
You can utilise this time to work on your vocabulary.Read newspapers and magazines.
There are instances when people lose interest and pace in last few months having been run out of energy and passion.
The last few months would determine your performance to a great extent.
Still,if you want to prepare CLAT from class 11th,then go for self-preparation. Look up articles online and get yourself acquainted with the syllabus and pattern and start working to improve your weaker points.
Work on your vocabulary and GK in first year.
As your second year commences, get yourself enrolled in mock tests.Work on Mathematics,Legal Aptitudes and Reasoning.
Practice as much as you can and don't let yourself indulge in boredom.
Best Of Luck!

Step 7 - Stress Management - This is a must given the level of competition you have to face. Stay confident and calm. Do at least 15 minutes of yoga every day to increase your concentration power and decrease your stress levels.
Some tips are -
1. Read the NCERT line by line and do not leave out any question or examples.
2. Last year papers are a good way to know the pattern of questions. Also, many times questions are repeated from last year paper. Solve all the question of last year paper.
3. Procrastination is your biggest enemy right now. Beware of procrastination. Stay motivated, take sufficient breaks but do not waste your time unnecessarily.
4. Mornings are the best time to study as the surrounding is calm and mind is fresh in the morning.
5. Devote your time wisely to each and every subject and take help of at least one reference book.
