Madras University PG admission is both merit and entrance-based. The University offers PG programmes such as MTech, MA, MSc, MCom, MEd, Master of Law, Master of Journalism and Mass Communication (MJMC) and Master of Library Science (M.Lib.Sc) in various specialisations. Admission is offered based on the marks obtained in the last qualifying examination and score obtained in the entrance exam conducted by the University.

At the PG level, Madras University MSc programme is offered under plenty of specialisations. The University categorises all of its MSc specialisations in three categories:
