Firstly because of its rankings Internationally, IIT Patna was ranked 108 among BRICS nations by the QS World University Rankings of 2018. IIT Patna was ranked 22 among engineering colleges in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2019 and 58 overall.

It has great placements records Out of 140 undergraduate registered and eligible candidates, 125 got placed with an average package of 11.47 Lakhs per annum. Out of 49 registered and eligible postgraduate students, 31 got placed with an average package of 8.34 Lakhs. IIT Patna placed 90% of its B.Tech students, 2014-2018 batch with 151 offers.
