Hey there hope you're doing well.
Dear Prince , yes it is not necessary that you have to sit any any competitive examination. It's students choice only . If you're willing to get admitted in gov. Colleges of India for engineering courses then only you need to appeasr and clear their exams otherwise not. There are numerous private colleges available which provide BE/B.TECH courses in various streams they need your 12 scorecard or even not that they directly get you admitted there through their admission counselling procedure.
