Karnataka Common Entrance Test(KCET) is conducted by the KEAM for admissions to various engineering, B.Pharm and Farm Science courses offered by colleges of Karnataka.

As for your question, the main advantage of scoring a rank below 5000 would be that you would have a better chance of being admitted in the best institutes and also be able to choose the branch of your choice.
