Sir first of all let ur son choose his branch based on his passion. Then look out for colleges where u can get that branch. Do not compromise branch for the college u choose. Acc. to the info mentioned above, I would say that u look for the best NITs for the branch of ur choice and not IITs for branch which is of not his interest.

Sir, prefer IIT. Because IIT has a most higher education . and also at the time of placements IIT students student are give preference first by big international companies.
If your son does not secure seat in IIT so prefer NIT.
It also good & Most important thing is your son's field selection in engineering and advanced rank.
