Well Sachin first of all you should know that what is the full form of GATE or what does it mean?. So GATE( Graduate Apptitude Test Engineering) it is the entrance exam which you need to give to take admission for Master in Technology (M.Tech). This exam is compulsory for taking admission in higher studies if you will not qualify this exam then will not go for higher education in the fuelf of engineering.

GATE, also called Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, is a computer bases national leveled test to judge the understanding of various science and engineering undergraduate subjects.

It is conducted by the following institutes:

IISc (Indian Institute of Science)

IIT Roorkee, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Bombay.

The benefit of GATE exam is that it's score helps to gain admission in prestigious PG programs at IIT's and IISc's such as 

ME(Master of Engineering)

M.Tech(Master of Technology)

Ph.D(Doctor of Philosophy)

Thus opening a good scope for students who want persue the above courses.
