What is the eligibility for keam

According to the eligibility criteria of KEAM 2019 only Indian students are allowed to appear for th exam .

Keralite- The student will be considered as a Keralite if he/she has a kerala origin.

Non-Keralite (Category 1) - The candidate is doing a qualifying course from kerala or the candidates who are not a resident of kerala but completed their study from class 8 to 12th from kerala.

Non-Kerlite (Category2) - The age of the candidate should be 17 years on 31 dec 2019, However these candidates will not get any kind of reservation and will be given seats based on government quota or management quota.

Elidibility criteria for KEAM 2019 is :

Qualifying Marks-

  • Candidates must have secured 50% marks in Mathematics separately.

  • Candidates must have an aggregate of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics together.

Domicile- 

Candidates will be categorised as Keralite, Non-Keralite Category I (NK I) and Non-Keralite Category II (NK II). In order to prove that candidate is an Indian citizen of Kerala origin, he or she has to submit certain documents.

Age Limit- 

  • Candidates are required to have completed 17 years of age as on December 31, 2019 to fulfil the eligibility criteria of KEAM 2019. There will be no relaxation in the minimum age 

  • There is no upper age limit for appearing in KEAM 2019.

Nationality- 

  • Candidate applying for KEAM 2019 must be the citizen of India

  • Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)/ Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) will also be considered eligible, however, they will not be entitled to any kind of reservation.

Age Limit- 

  • Candidates are required to have completed 17 years of age as on December 31, 2019 to fulfil the eligibility criteria of KEAM 2019. There will be no relaxation in the minimum age 

  • There is no upper age limit for appearing in KEAM 2019.

Academic Qualification-

  • Candidates must have passed Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala or equivalent examination with 50% marks in Mathematics separately and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.

  • To take admission under Management Quota in Private Self Financing Engineering Colleges or Government Controlled Self Financing Engineering Colleges candidates must have 45% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.

  • The marks scored in Computer Science will be considered if the candidate has not studied Chemistry and in case, the candidate has not studied Chemistry and Computer Science, the marks in Biotechnology will be considered. The marks in Biology will be considered if none of the subjects- Chemistry, Computer Science and Biotechnology has been studied by the candidate.

Qualifying Marks-

  • Candidates must have secured 50% marks in Mathematics separately.

  • Candidates must have an aggregate of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics together.

  • Candidates of Kerala origin will be categorised as a Keralite

  • Children of All India Service (AIS) officers (Non-Keralites) allotted to Kerala cadre are also considered as Keralites but it is to be noted that they will not be eligible for Communal/ Special/ Persons with Disabilities reservation or any fee concession.

KEAM Eligibility Criteria 2019 : Non-Keralite Category I (NK I)

Candidates will be categorised as Non-Keralite Category I (NK I) if they are not of Kerala origin but satisfies anyone of the following conditions:

  • Candidates who have undertaken qualifying course in Kerala and their Non- Keralite parents belong to Government of India/ Defence Service, posted to Kerala.

  • Candidates who have undergone qualifying course in Kerala and their Non- Keralite parents who are serving/ served Government of Kerala for a minimum period of two years.

  • Candidates who are not of Kerala origin but has been a resident of Kerala for a period of 5 years within the period of 12 years of their study.

  • Candidates who are not of Kerala origin but who have undergone their school studies in Kerala from standard VIII to XII.

Such candidates will be considered against ‘State Merit’ seats for engineering but will not be eligible for Communal/ Special/ Persons with Disabilities reservation or any fee concession during the KEAM admission procedure.

KEAM Eligibility Criteria 2019 : Non-Keralite Category II (NK II): 

  • Candidates coming under this category will be eligible for admission to government and management quota seats in B.Tech programmes offered by government-controlled self-financing colleges and private self-financing engineering.

  • However, candidates in this category will be considered for admission to government seats in government-controlled self-financing engineering colleges only when the Keralite and Non- Keralite I (NK I) candidates are not available for admission.

  • Candidates in this category will not be eligible for Communal/ Special/ Persons with Disabilities reservation or any fee concession.

Note: Candidates belonging to the above mentioned three categories will be admitted in respect of seats reserved for the nominees of Government of India, Administration of Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep Administration and Jammu & Kashmir.
