The DC School of Management and Technology (DCSMT) is located in the state of Kerala. To be precise, the site is in the town of Pullikkannam. which is in the Idukki district. The college was established fairly recently, in the year 2002. The college campus runs over a total area worth thirty- two acres of land. The DCSMT is affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), located in Kottayam. This affiliation to the MGU also ensures approval from the UGC (University Grants Commission). It has also been accredited by the NAAC (National Assessments and Accreditation Council), earning an A grade in it.
A separate IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) has been created to this end, to ensure that all the terms of the NAAC are complied with. An AQAR (Annual Quality Assurance Report) gets generated to quantify the results. The college is promoted by the group behind the DC Books. It was started by an eminent writer, intellectual and educator, Shri Dominic Chacko Kizhekumuri. DC Books when first created, was a revolution, as it created a wave in the reading culture, becoming more accessible to so many more people. The DCSMT also has another branch in the state capital of Thiruvananthapuram, and affiliated to the Kerala University.
The one in the state capital only offers the MBA and CMA (Certified Management Accountant) courses. Some of the courses here, have also met the approval of the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). At present, courses are on offer, here at the Kerala- based DC School of Management and Technology at both the UG as well as the PG levels. As the name suggests, the college first ventured into management education, before expanding into other areas. For that, it offers the BBA and the MBA. At the undergrad level, the B. Com is also offered, tapping in to the broader interest towards the college in management and in commerce.
The college also has the School of Architecture and Design. This wing looks after courses in the BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts), BA in Visual Arts and the B. Arch. Some add- on courses may also be undertaken here. These courses are here, being provided by the STED (Scientific and Technical Education Development) Council. These may be taken up by working professionals, seeking a skill upgrade, but unable to take up a full- time programme. Besides these external students, many internal ones may also be roped in towards this. A scholarship is provided to several of the students under the college’s own CSR initiative.
Research plays a key role in the development and growth of this college. For that, several certifications are being offered here. Some centres of excellence have also been opened on campus. The college’s initiatives have also been rewarded with an ISO (International Organization for Standardization) certification by the TUV- SUD. For admissions to the MBA, students may apply via nationally recognized exams such as the MAT (Management Aptitude Test) or the CMAT (Common Management Aptitude Test). The other courses mainly do the intake based on merit of school- leaving exams. Internal entrance tests are also conducted by the DC School of Management and Technology.
The DCSMAT Research Centre was also founded in the year 2008. Students and faculty members here alike work towards writing research reports and blogs. Case writing is also seen as an important area to work on. To facilitate further research, the library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes. There is also an IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) Cell on campus. Work goes on closely with leading industry bodies such as the CII (Confederation of Indian Industries).
The campus has much to offer. There are hostel facilities for both boys and girls. Banking facilities with ATM are available in the campus’s vicinity. There is a sports field where cricket and football may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. The campus is Wi- Fi enabled. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. A health centre is also there to cater to medical emergencies. Hygienic food is prepared at the college cafeteria.
The college even has its own transport to ferry students to and from the campus. There are additional guest houses as well, to house external visitors. This especially is of use during the placement rounds. The DC School of Management and Technology is increasingly doing well in this aspect. Some of the top recruiters to have selected students form the DCSMT include TCS, BIPHA Drug Laboratories, Indian Express, Chola MS General Insurance and few more.
