Homi Bhabha National Institute Mumbai was established by the Department of Atomic Energy in 2005. HBNI Mumbai got the status of a deemed to be University on June 3, 2005 under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. The Institute is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The Institute started running its academic programme from 2006.
