About VJTI Mumbai
The history of Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute is quite rich and dates back to 1887 where it got a humble start as Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute with just two departments of Textile and Mechanical Engineering. After 1903, the institute expanded to accommodate more departments. In 1913, the institute received recognition by the Government of Bombay as the Central Technological Institute. It got renamed to the present name in the year 1998 and it offers courses in different level of study. The campus size of VJTI Mumbai is 17-acre campus. The faculty and student enrollment of VJTI is 126 and 4643 respectively. It receives grants-in-aid from the Government for its overall functioning.
VJTI Mumbai stands at 71 on the NIRF ranking and has actualised its vision of establishing global leadership in the field of science and technology and developing competent human resources for serving the society. VJTI Mumbai offers Diploma, UG and PG programmes in a number of specializations. Students can also enroll for PhD in the institute. The entrance criteria for UG BTech programs is JEE or CET. Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute societies and clubs are largely student-run and are performing really well. These clubs not only participate in competitions and win laurels but also organise workshops and other activities to keep other students engaged.
E-cell-Also known as Entrepreneurship-cell, this cell was set up in 2007. It aims at creating awareness about entrepreneurial activities.
Society of Robotics and Automation- This society represents VJTI Mumbai at national-level technical competitions on robotics and conducts workshops on topics like aero-modeling and autonomous robotics.
The Debate and Literary Activities (DLA) Society- This society is responsible for organising quizzes, poetry competitions, MUNs, debates and other literary events. Besides, it arranges book fairs and movie screenings on a regular basis.
