It is ranked third best in state and 55 th best in our country.. The school of engineering provides various engineering course s among which the fire and safety dept owes great importance.. Apart from academics.. Cultural programs.. Tech fests...etc provides opportunities to prove the talents of youth... Great faculties student bonding.. Very vital to the existence of the institution.. The placements record from past few years also tells us about this. ... It all makes Cusat a number one campus.. Where u can enjoy ur life.. Both academically and co curricularly...

CUSAT is a technological university in Kerala, situated at Kalamassery, started in the year 1971.Its excellence in research and academics made CUSAT be considered for up gradation to IIT ,in the past and currently to IIEST.The up gradation is expected soon.CUSAT has UG programmes limited to Engineering and law(honors).CUSAT is known for its relatively tough and updated syllabus and do have a good value for its certificate. Its worth earning.Even though the facilities like infrastructure ,transportation etc are not comparable to institutes of national importance, labs ,library, faculty(, over everyone, especially excluding contract lecturers) are very much comparable to those institutes. The focus of CUSAT faculty is ideation and knowledge creation that empowers the students to excel in their pursuit of success. Apart from in-house Faculty an impressive panel of Renowned Visiting Faculty further enrich the academic activities.

All about my college - positive and negative points

Batch of 2016 | B.Tech Electrical and Electronics Engineering
This is a gov. college owned by Kerala govt. Like most of the stat govt college, the infrastructure is a little bit poor. This is the college which introduced Safety & Fire Engineering and Information Technology for the first time in the history of Technical Education in India. This is a well affordable college. safety and Fire engineering are very good in terms of placement. some of the PSUs like IOCL and HPCL too visit our campus for safety and fire engineering candidates with a CTC of 12 lakhs (approx).

It has the most sophisticated and advanced of equipments and labs when it comes to core engineering. Supportive and inspirational faculties, ability to work and operate startup within the campus. Very much understanding support staff and university. Politically active making it the best place for graduation. I wouldn't mind spending another 10 more years on the same course, but life calls.

About College:

The Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) as the name suggests is based in Kochi, Kerala. It has three campuses in total, two of which are in Kochi. The third one is in the town of Kuttanad in the Alappuzha district, also in Kerala. And as the name suggests, the prime focus of this university is towards science, technology and engineering. It was established in 1971. Being a UGC (University Grants Commission)- recognized university, the CUSAT awards its own degrees.

The entire academics here is run by a cohort of schools. Some of the schools are further divided into departments. There are Schools here for – Engineering, Technology, Environmental Studies, Humanities, Law, Social Sciences, Medical Sciences & Technology and Sciences. Kochi being home to one of India’s largest ports, plus being historically a vibrant coastal city, there is a School of Marine Sciences. Within this school, there are five separate departments namely for – Atmospheric Sciences, Chemical Oceanography, Physical Oceanography and Marine Geology & Geophysics. There is one for Marine Biology, Microbiology and Biochemistry. Further, there is a School of Industrial Fisheries.

The Sciences are further departmentalized into- Physics, Statistics, Mathematics, Applied Chemistry and Biotechnology. The School of Social Sciences has a Department of Applied Economics. In addition, there is the School of Management Studies that acts subordinate to the one for social sciences. The School of Technology meanwhile has six departments. These are for- Electronics, Instrumentation, Computer Science, Computer Applications, Ship Technology and Polymer Science & Rubber Technology. There is also an International School of Photonics. Courses can be pursued within these school right from the undergrad to the doctoral levels.

The School of Engineering works in a different model as it is spread over the three campuses. One of those is dedicated fully to marine engineering. Overall this is the largest school, as it meets the primary mandate of the university. Engineering courses are available- Civil, Mechanical, IT, Electrical & Electronics and Computer Science. There is another one in Safety & Fire Engineering. This is one of the more unique courses available here. Specialized courses are available at the master’s level. Some examples of these are in- Construction Engineering & Management, Process Engineering, Power Electronics, Thermal Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Software Systems, Network Computing and Wireless Technology. At the Alappuzha centre, an MCA degree is also up for grabs. There are several online courses as well, usually with a shorter- term duration. These are ideal for working professionals to pursue, often as a top- up.

In addition to all these academic schools and departments, there are specialized centres of excellence. These have been established to foster greater research and development work. There are Centres at the CUSAT for- Atmospheric Radar Research, Advanced Materials, Information Resource Management, Science Communication, Science in Society, Techno Strategic Studies, Social Exclusion & Inclusive Policy, Development of Marine Biotechnology, IPR Studies, Nanomaterials & Devices, Aquatic Animal Health Women’s Studies, Budget Studies and Contemporary Studies, apart from a few more. Some of these centres are named after some prominent personalities. A few are also run jointly with a few more academic institutions or government bodies.

The CUSAT’s well- known reputation for research and academics has meant that the university has kept picking good ranks across the board. It got placed in the 801-1000 band worldwide at the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2018, and in the 251-300 category for Asia alone. It has also been accredited by the NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council), AIU (Association of Indian Universities) and ACU (Association of Commonwealth Universities). The CUSAT is extremely mindful of having international students within the campus. So, special provisions have been made to ease their process of enrolment here. Seats are also reserved for Indians working in the Gulf countries, as many from the state of Kerala are.

The CUSAT though tries to develop students holistically and not just with bookish academics. That is why the practical learning environment has been developed. In addition, several workshops take place for students’ betterment. One such way is the Mind Behaviour Studio. This one helps track students’ mind alterations as they work on specific problems. Students are also able to vent their feelings in a controlled environment through use of positive psychology. A government- induced open source software also aids students for spoken communications, through the use of tutorials. These tutorials are available using Google- powered MOOCs.

The CUSAT now has an enviable reputation within the higher education fraternity. That is the main reason for its placements track record to be improving periodically. Some of the prominent recent recruiters have been the likes of -Oracle, Verizon, Cognizant, TCS, Infosys, Wipro, IBM, Accenture, Convergys, Mu Sigma, HCL, Cairn, HP, DRDO, L&T, Mahindra & Mahindra, ONGC, RIL, NPCL, Murugappa Group, JSW, Patni Computer Systems, Synergy, SCOPE, Standard Chartered, AFCON, Snapdeal, Apollo Tyres, ACC Ltd., Tata Projects and Tata Chemicals.
