Batch of 2018 | PGDM
You don't survive at Joka, but you live here. One usually comes here keeping only placement in mind but towards the end, of course, learns a lot about life. With largest alumni base among all IIMs and being known as finance campus of India, this is the best place if you want to enjoy the life while learning management. Life is not all about slogging here, it involves many more things which you may not get in other premier IIMs which are more focused towards endless slogging. Enter here and you will never regret.

IIM-C is the best institute of India. Despite there's no college life but the veteran faculties and education curriculum make it the best college of INDIA. The 2 years spent here were full of learning and fun. The teachings, extracurricular activities, sports facilities, and events gave an exposure that prepared and nurtured me for my further life . Indeed the lessons and relations I earned from this second home can never be forgotten.

The campus of IIM C, located outside the city has seven lakes inside of it, boasting some unique facilities like Financial Laboratory, Fully air conditioned and well-equipped classes, an open-air theater & Fully AC auditorium. The campus offers a great deal of learning through interaction with different sets of people and a great practical way of teaching. though I believe the college hostels can be made better, the campus authorities are doing the right work to build new hostels and make the campus life more comfortable and conducive.

Excellent infrastructure with lush green surroundings. The lakes and greenery surround the magnificent library, classrooms, admin block, hostels and EDP blocks. Extremely capable and scholarly faculty in all domains especially finance, statistics, operations, marketing and behavioural sciences. We enjoyed and made lifelong friendships. The fun and joy of spending those two years together, while also working hard, prepared us for the life ahead and continue today. We stepped into our professional lives with our first jobs in hand on the campus and with dreams in our eyes and grand visions in our minds .

There are from all sectors of business like Financial Services, PE funds, Management Consultancy, IT Consultancy, FMCG companies, Consumer Durable Companies, E-Commerce companies, Media & Entertainment companies, etc. Usually, the entire batch gets placed through placements. IIM Calcutta boasts of a very strong alumni network across the corporate world. A unique feature about IIM Calcutta is that each and every person retains his or her personality. Professors treat students as their equals, and this fosters a great spirit out of which overall development is guaranteed. The structure of the course is very well designed so as to make learning a pleasure. Students are treated as equals by professors and encouraged to actively participate in lectures. There are a number of case-studies that students are involved in throughout the course.Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM-C) has an extremely well-equipped library, and it has good facilities for students who are interested in sports as well. There are four hostels which provide single-occupancy accommodation for all students. Each hostel has its own coffee shop, canteen, and photocopiers. The campus is fully WiFi enabled.

About College:

Just like fellow IIMs- Ahmedabad and Bengaluru in particular- the one in Kolkata (erstwhile Calcutta) occupies a place of massive respect among people of India. This was actually the first IIM conceived and ready in 1961 under the auspices of the then Planning Commission. The Indian Institute of Management in Kolkata is often nicknamed as Joka due to its location in the suburb of the same name. Right from day one, there has been foreign collaboration visible at IIM-C. The MIT Sloan School of Management and the Ford Foundation were instrumental in its set up in collaboration with the government of West Bengal. Visionary academicians such as Paul Samuelson, JK Sengupta and Jagdish Sheth were part of the founding team.

The extremely well-stocked digitized library at IIM-C is named after Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, who was the second Chief Minister of the state of West Bengal post-independence and on whose name the National Doctors’ Day is commemorated. The institute has also inked several collaborations with the top global management institutes such as with HEC-Paris, University of Cologne and ESSEC Business School in Paris. Instead of inking deals individually, IIM-C has now adopted the course of becoming part of international groups where fellow luminaries from several countries join in. It has received accreditation from the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) and AMBA (Association of MBAs). It is the only Indian face part of the CEMS (Global Alliance in Management Education). The courses offered at IIM-C include the flagship 2-year PGP, but also the one-year PGPEX, a doctoral programme and several short-term and online certifications. The campus is even bigger than the one in Ahmedabad at 135 acres.

IIM-C was earlier, like several of the other IIMs notorious for its relative low levels of diversity among the student pool. Majority were male, engineers with work experience. That is why the government has introduced diversity norms to ensure there is better representation among women, freshers and those from diverse career paths such as commerce, management, law, medical, the general sciences, the social sciences and humanities. Another major development that the IIMs including Kolkata have been part of has been the passing of the IIM Bill, 2017. This has allowed greater levels of autonomy to the institutes, with greater freedom from government interference. In addition, IIMs are now able to dole out MBA degrees and not the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) as was earlier the case.

The Indian Institute of Management in Kolkata has featured prominently in multiple international institutional rankings. The Financial Times London has featured IIM-C at 23rd best in the world. The highly prestigious QS Global Rankings meanwhile assigned IIM-C as 18th best in the Asia-Pacific region. The NIRF (National Institutional Rankings Framework) which is a government body has placed it 3rd nationwide in the management category. In addition, several national publications such as Business Today and Outlook have allotted the top few ranks overall.

The institute is like the other top IIMs renowned for its excellent placements track record. Top recruiters from different fields regularly visit the institute and pick up students en masse. And that is why getting a seat here is considered tougher than a place at any of the Ivy League colleges in USA even. Unless one gets in the top 1 percentile of the CAT exam, there are few chances of getting a call in the general category. In addition, sectional scores and past records are also scrutinized. Post the shortlisting based on CAT, there is the equally rigorous WAT-PI process. Like several of the other IIMs, Kolkata too has given up on the GD (Group Discussion) section and replaced with the WAT (Written Ability Test). This is because managers of the future need to hone their writing skills while the GD was not providing ample scope to judge from a crowd. Due to such rigorous selection procedure, IIM-C has seen several top business leaders pass through its gates. Organizations such as Dabur, Quikr, BSE, Food Panda, Britannia, P&G, Asian Paints, Tata Steel, PepsiCo, Federal Bank, ReNew Power, Mastek, ANZ Bank and HPCL are led at present by IIM-C alumni. In addition, several top players in politics, government, literature, social work and academics have emerged out of here.

The Indian Institute of Management in Kolkata is also renowned for its thriving student life on campus. There are several cells looking after students’ co-curricular and extra-curricular needs. The Intaglio business summit, in particular, is well-known as is the Carpe Diem cultural fest. There is also the business symposium known as Lattice. A student-run magazine by the name of Joka Times also gets printed here. Clubs take care of interests such as cinema, art, dance, dramatics and photography as well as academic interests such as marketing, marketing research and talent management.
