PHFI/ Public Health Foundation of India is a not-for-profit public-private initiative meant to cope with the public health challenges in India. PHFI was formed in 2006 as a result of a national consultation by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Public Health Foundation of India has an active presence in public health education, research and  training. PHFI also offers online PHFI courses, offline Public Health Foundation of India courses certification programmes and training on various aspects of public health to promote public health awareness among people. Public Health Foundation of India also contributes extensively to the research and policymaking in the public health industry.  

PHFI - Overview 

  • PHFI came into existence in 2006 as a public-private entity to work for the improvement of the public sector of India. 

  • Many Indian Institutes of Public Health (IIPHs) were established under the Public Health Foundation of India to promote research, education and training in public health. 

  • PHFI offers e-learning programmes, on-campus courses and training. 

  • PHFI also provided placement assistance for the learners who graduated.

The Public Health Foundation of India is associated with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Indian Council of Medical Research, National Institute of Communicable Diseases, National Institute of Health and Family Welfare and many other collaborators from India. The foreign collaborators of PHFI are the University of Canberra, Australia, University of Edinburgh, UK, University of Glasgow, UK, University of Leeds, UK, Harvard School of Public Health and several others. 

PHFI - Industry Partnerships

PHFI initiatives and undertakings are supported by many partners including various governments, companies and organizations. Public Health Foundation of India partners with the Government of Gujarat, the Government of Telangana, the Government of Delhi and many other state governments in India. Many foundations also support PHFI including Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Infosys Foundation, American India Foundation and the like.

ePost Graduate program in Health Promotion

ePost Graduate Program in Health Promotion

The Public Health Foundation of India launched the ePost Graduate Program in Health Promotion in 2011; with technical inputs from Keck School of Medicine, the University of Southern California, and John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The certification course has been designed to help learners understand key health promotion concepts.

Health Promotion training is a one-year programme and is entirely conducted online. The first eight months of this programme are devoted to learning significant health promotion concepts. Learners can choose to study any offered electives for the last three months.

Furthermore, the Health Promotion certification course is taught in eLearning mode and uses Moodle as its Learning Management System (LMS). LMS is beneficial as you can access it from any browser connected to the internet, and get a virtual classroom experience. This online eLearning program also provides participants with a certificate upon successful completion.

eCourse in STI & HIV/AIDS

The eCourse in STI & HIV/AIDS certification is a six-month inter-professional programme that focuses on the HIV and STI epidemic and treatments on a national level. eCourse on Public Health Development for ICDS officials

Malnutrition has always been a major problem in India. The number of malnourished women and children in the country is one of the highest in the world. The eCourse on Public Health Development for ICDS officials by the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) is designed to improve the competencies of officials working under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme.

The Research Ethics online course is a three-month course set by the Indian Institute of Public Health (IIPH). It looks at sensitizing its participants on conducting ethics from conceptualizing a research idea to publishing results. The language of instruction is English.
