With a WBJEE 2025 general rank of 72,000 and an SC category rank of 8,000, securing a Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) seat in top government colleges like Kalyani Government Engineering College (KGEC) or Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT), Kolkata, is highly unlikely. In 2024, KGEC's closing rank for CSE under the SC category was around 5,436, and HIT Kolkata's closing rank for CSE in the SC category was approximately 10,419 .

Hello! With a WBJEE 2025 rank of 72,000 (general) and 8,000 (SC category), getting CSE in government colleges in West Bengal is very unlikely, as Computer Science is one of the most competitive branches and usually has cutoffs within the top few thousand ranks. However, you may have a chance in private colleges like Heritage Institute of Technology or Kalyani Government Engineering College  depending on seat availability, counselling rounds, and category reservation. Your SC category rank may improve your chances slightly in reserved seats, but for CSE, competition remains high.

Hello,

With 72k General rank and 8k SC category rank, chances of getting CSE in Heritage Institute of Technology or Kalyani Government Engineering College (KGEC) are very slim because CSE cutoff in these colleges usually closes much earlier:

  • Heritage CSE SC cutoff: within 2k–3k SC rank.
  • KGEC CSE SC cutoff: within 1.5k–2k SC rank.

But you may still get lower-demand branches (Civil, Electrical, Production, etc.) in some govt colleges or private ones. For CSE, you should target Tier-2 private colleges under SC quota.

Thank you!

Hello Aspirant,

Your WBJEE rank is 72,000 and SC rank ~8,000; therefore, it is going to be very difficult to get CSE in Heritage or KGEC because those two colleges are usually closed by much lower SC rank. Although the CSE cut-offs at government colleges are also usually lower than yours. You may be able to get other branches in some government engineering colleges or could possibly get CSE in the less preferred private colleges. You should have a look at last year's official WBJEE opening & closing ranks on the WBJEE website to give you some clarity. Refer this: WBJEE Rank Wise College List
