Hey ashiq,

There are abundant opportunities for economic in today’s world. Economics is something that will never go out of scope. It’s a subject that is required in almost every field, be it running of a state or running of a company. Economists are also very sought after, especially in a developing country like ours. They also have immense opportunities abroad. Various industries like economic forecasting firms, data analytics companies, Public Sector units such as TERI, FICCI, NCAER, RBI etc provide employment opportunities. Research is also another useful area in economics. For research you can do a Phd and continue your studies. Some of the great job prospects are as follows:

·         Economist: they research and analyze market trends. They are often consulted by big companies before investments.

·         Financial Manager: they will be controlling all the monetary aspects of any organization that you are managing. They will also look after the budgeting and expenditure.

·         Policy Analyst : this is mostly related to public policies. They analyze the economy and makes everybody aware. Also issue suggestions to the government and policy makers.

·         Teaching: you can be a professor in a college or a teacher in a school. The opportunities become better after a Phd.

·         Mutual Funds Manager: The fund manager is basically in charge of what stocks, bonds or other assets the fund will buy with investors' money. Essentially, the fund manager will function as a stock-picker.

·         Litigation consultant   : A litigation consultant is brought into a case, other than an attorney or similar employee, who helps a litigator improve the chances of winning a case by elevating the attorney’s performance.

·      Continuation of the above answer IES (Indian Economics Services) Officer : IES officer works in the field of economic advice, economic administration, implementation of development policy and programs, besides dealing with other areas such as economic reforms, regulation, and price fixation. All aspirants are to appear for IES examination and selected on the basis of result and a personal interview. With regard to your second question, yes, the course will help you understand about stocks. The job of economists in every field is basically analyze the stock market and give suggestions and ideas. BITS is a great college and has great placements. Since it is an integrated course it will hold more value as it is a double degree. The options after finishing it will also be many. But you cannot really make a decision now as choosing CS will completely depend on your first semester CGPA. But some of the other great specializations if at all you do not make into SC are : FinanceMarketingOperationsItHr
