Whose scope is more anaesthesia or mbbs. My sister is doing anaesthesia from pgi chandigarh. Is it a good course

What is Anaesthesiology?



  • It is the field of medical sciences which deals with relieving the patients from pain.
  • Anesthesiologists are physicians specializing in taking care of the patient pre, post and during  surgery, create a plan  about what dosages and medicines are required to be given to the patient in order to keep him well sedated for the treatment, and most importantly they are the ones who inject or orally give the anesthetics.
  • They take care of the patients who are in extreme conditions, whether it be because of any injury or ailment or because of respiratory or cardiac arrests.






How to become an anesthesiologist?



  • Firstly you need to complete higher secondary education (i.e. high school) with science subjects.
  • After high school education the aspirant must do a four year MBBS from a university that is acknoledged by the Medical Council of India.
  • MBBS is followed with on house surgency.
  • After the house surgency period gets over the aspirant can appy for post-graduation course of M.D. in Anesthesiology.




What does an Anesthesiologist do?



  • They are responsible to properly monitor the body vitals of the patient after and before  they are operated on.
  • These usually include heartbeat rate, breathing rate, temperature, lungs and kidney functions. In addition to the surgery, the anesthesiologist also takes care of the patients who require artificial ventilation and care for their post-operative state.
  • Being an anesthesiologist would mean to be present on-call, whenever there is a surgery is scheduled. Thus an anesthesiologist plays a very important role in an doff the surgery.
  • The chances of an emergency while surgery is under procedure are always very high, thus an anesthesiologist will have to be present from the start till the end in order to properly monitor the vitals and immediately take action if anything goes wrong.




Career prospects for Anesthesiologist:



  • There is the role of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, who assist the supervising anesthesiologist.
  • Anesthesia Technician, who is in-charge of monitoring the equipment that is used for anesthesia during the surgery.
  • Anesthesiologists can build up their profile by studying more specialized courses designed for them or by taking up fellowships.




Average salary of anesthesiologists:



The average salary of anesthesiologists ranges from 8 to 12 lakhs per annum.
