Hello Aspirant,

See there is no any compulsion to have laptop in your entire B.Tech. course in any field but if you have laptop and especially when you are in CSE branch then it will be a plus point for you because there is lot of programming in different languages for which laptop is required and not only this but for so many different works like projects, coding, online classes(as per present circumstances) and so on requires a basic laptop. If you have a laptop then your lot of work will become easier otherwise you will get computers in library or computer lab of IIT Roorkee.

I hope this information helps you.

Good Luck!!

Hi,

Generally, in the first year the syllabus is usually as same of other branches and the subjects are Chemistry Mathematics etc. You will only have 1-2 subjects that only will teach you the basic knowledge and output. There is no need for extensive usage of a laptop in first year as such. However, it can be a good time for you to practice the basics of you want But, the laptop is generally required after first year. If you want to purchase, you can. It will be a good time for learning basics.
