    IIT Roorkee Admission Process

    Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee offers admissions to undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses. IIT Roorkee UG admissions are based on the scores of JEE Advanced. IIT Roorkee M.Tech admissions are based on the scores of GATE whereas IIT Roorkee MBA admissions are based on the scores of CAT. M.Sc admissions are based on JAM/ GAT-B and M.Des admissions are based on CEED/GATE scores. IIT Roorkee Ph.D admissions are based on UGC NET including lectureship and GATE or through National Level Examinations conducted by MHRD and its Agencies and Institutes.

    • The candidate must meet IIT Roorkee eligibility criteria to apply for the courses. 

    • The candidate must qualify JEE Mains and JEE Advanced.

    • After the declaration of the results, if the candidate meets IIT Roorkee JEE Advanced Cutoff, then the candidate should apply for Joint Seat Allocation Process (JoASAA).

    • The candidate has to select IIT Roorkee as the preferred college.

    • Finally the candidate will get an offer letter for IIT Roorkee admissions.

    IIT Roorkee PG Admissions 

    The college offers 53 courses at the postgraduate level. IIT Roorkee PG courses include  M.Tech, M.Arch, M.B.A, M.Sc, M.Plan, and M.Des. The duration of all the PG courses at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee is 2 years. All the IIT Roorkee PG courses are offered in full-time mode only.

    For M.Sc ( Biotechnology):  Candidate must have a bachelor's degree in any relevant area of Biology/Biotechnology /Agriculture, Allied discipline with any biology subject with a minimum of 60% marks. For SC/ST candidates there is a relaxation of 5% marks.

    For other departments of M.Sc Valid JAM scores are required.

    Four-year graduate degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks ( 55% FOR SC/ST)  with Mathematics as one of the subjects in 10+2 with a valid CEED/GATE score.  

    Final-year candidates of relevant UG programmes who have completed the requirements of qualifying examination can also apply.

    IIT Roorkee Admission Process: M.Tech/ M.Arch 

    • The candidate must meet IIT Roorkee eligibility criteria to apply for the courses.

    • The candidates must qualify GATE.

    • The candidate can apply for a maximum of 4 departments but the selected candidates will be offered IIT Roorkee admission only in one programme depending on their preference and merit. 

    • Regular B.Tech. degree holders from the IITs with CGPA > 8 and Sponsored students with relevant experience and written test/ interview are exempted from the GATE examination.

    • Then the candidates have to register in Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) and seats are allotted based on the students' performance in the entrance test.

    IIT Roorkee M.B.A Admission Process

    • The candidate has to meet IIT Roorkee eligibility criteria to apply for the courses.

    • The candidate has to appear and qualify CAT.

    • IIT Graduates admitted through JEE Advanced with CGPA 7 and above are exempted from CAT. The selection is made based on the interview.

    • A common merit list shall be prepared on the basis of scores of selection criterion for admission to the IIT Roorkee M.B.A programme

    • Finally the candidate will get an offer letter for IIT Roorkee M.B.A. admissions.

    IIT Roorkee M.Des. Admission Process

    • The candidates must meet IIT Roorkee eligibility criteria to apply for the courses.

    • The Shortlisted candidates will be called for an Aptitude test and Personal Interview.

    • Provisional admissions are provided based on aggregate performance.

    • Then, the candidate has to pay full IIT Roorkee fees by the date mentioned in the provisional letter.

    • IIT Roorkee M.Des admissions are done in multiple rounds and admissions offers are provided to the students by mail.

    IIT Roorkee M.Sc. Admission Process

    • The candidates must meet IIT Roorkee eligibility criteria to apply for the courses.

    • The candidate must qualify GAT-B for the admission in M.Sc. ( Biotechnology) and for the departments other than Biotechnology the candidate must qualify JAM.

    • Then the selected candidates must register themselves and  should report to the concerned Head of the Department and submit the joining report.

    • The admission will be provisional until the candidate submits the documents and pays the IIT Roorkee fees. 

    IIT Roorkee Ph.D Admissions

    The college offers 20 Courses at doctoral levels. The duration of Ph.D lasts for 6 years. IIT Roorkee Ph.D courses are offered in full time mode only.

    The candidate should have a Masters degree with minimum 60% marks. For SC/ST category the candidate must have a minimum of 55% marks.

    Candidates from institutions other than Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) must have a B. Tech., B. Arch., or B. Pharm. degree or an equivalent degree along with a minimum GATE/GPAT/NET score of 7.50 on a scale of 10, or 75% of the total marks, regardless of the category. The minimum CGPA requirement for graduates from CFTIs is lowered to 7.0 on a scale of 10, which is equivalent to 70% of the grade.

    IIT Roorkee Ph.D Admission Process 

    • The candidates must meet IIT Roorkee eligibility criteria to apply for the courses.

    • The candidate must qualify UGC NET including lectureship and GATE or National Level Examinations conducted by MHRD and its Agencies and Institutes.

    • Candidates in ISERS or P-ISIRS or P-ISERS category, Bachelor or Masters from IITs with a CGPA 8.0 and above on 10 scale point scale, MBBS / BDS degree from an Indian Universities / Institution shall have a minimum CGPA of 6.0 on a 10 point scale, or 60% in the qualifying degree, irrespective of the category, Master of Surgery (MS)/ Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from an Indian University / Institute,  are exempted from  GATE / GPAT / JRF / NET score.

    • Candidates with Master’s programmes in Engineering or Architecture / Planning in

    IIT Roorkee with CGPA of 8.50 or above, shall have a choice of lateral entry to the Ph.D. programmes after completing the first two semesters of the Master’s programmes.

    • Shortlisting of the candidates is done based on the written test and interview.

    The courses in the chemical engineering branch are sort of old school. The professors are good but as all the colleges they have an orthodox teaching pattern. There is curriculum to integrate modern development with the existing courses, they do try to keep it updated.

    Acads wise Roorkee is quite good but it needs to update its curriculum in tune with Induztry 4.0. Though it is revising its syllabus but the change needs to be faster as the technology is changing overnight.

    Mechanical Engineering is one of the ancient and well-established branches in IIT Roorkee. The placement in mechanical is more than 72% with the rest of the population choosing for higher studies, CAT and UPSC. The average package in Mechanical Engineering is more than 10 Lacs.

    IIT Roorkee does not accept NATA scores. Admission to IIT Roorkee is based on exams such as JEE Advanced, GATE, JAM, and written tests followed by interview rounds.
