B.Sc. (Honours / Honours with Research) in Applied Physics with a minor in Scientific Computing / Astrophysics
The undergraduate Honours programme in Applied Physics with a minor in Scientific Computing / Astrophysics is aimed to provide a comprehensive education in physics to compete with the current academic, research, and industry scenario. The programme, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 framework, allows the opportunity to experience the full range of holistic and multidisciplinary education in addition to a focus on the chosen major and minors as per the choices of the student.

Additionally, to core physics courses, emphasis is given to applied physics courses that deal with the application of scientific principles to solve real-time problems and their utilization in practical devices. Such courses like Python, Biomedical instrumentation, Photonics, Principles of Lasers and Laser Applications etc act as a connecting bridge between pure physics and engineering.

The undergraduate programme comprises two minor streams alongside mainstream physics, namely Scientific computing, and astrophysics. The courses in scientific computing emphasise the application of modern analytical tools to solve problems from domains of physical science, life science and earth science. Theory incorporated laboratory practices of the course enable the use of mathematical models, simulations of physical phenomena, control experiments, and gathering relevant data. The minor courses in astrophysics comprise the investigation of the universe and how the laws of physics apply to astronomical objects and phenomena. Being an observational science rather than an experimental one, the astrophysics stream focuses on the explanations for the celestial phenomena through mathematical formulations.
