KVM College of Special Education, Cherthala started in 2001 is a college which provides education exclusively for teachers of special education. It is a co-educational college situated at Alappuzha district of Kerala state and offers attractive combinations of mental retardation and autism spectrum courses. It is affiliated to the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and has embraced accreditation in order to produce quality students. 

KVM College of Special Education possess number of amenities that aims to improve the learning process for the students enrolled in it. A modern library provides information while specialised skill based laboratories are a Sensory Integration Lab, a Psychology and Resources Lab. The campus has a facility for holding events and seminars, food court to cater for the student’s needs while features a health facilities that contains an Automated First Aid Vendor Equipment (AFAVE). Students can enjoy first-rate Information Technology provision, a sports complex, and a transport system. For candidates in need of hosting, the college has provided a facility of a girls’ hostel. 

KVM College of Special Education has four full-time courses – both at diploma and degree levels – en dorsed and designed with various aspects of special education in mind. The college provides two diploma programmes: D.Ed Special Education in Mental Retardation of two years duration and D.Ed Special Education in Autism Spectrum Disorders of two years duration. The college also offers higher qualifications to those who further wish to study to take higher qualifications, and these include the one-year B.ED programme in special education mental retardation and the one year M.ED programme in special education mental retardation. These programmes take 30 intakes each, making a total of 120 in the three courses offered. These diverse programmes help students at different levels and interests from the learning continuum, from first-time learners to learners who want to acquire deeper knowledge of the subject area.
