St. Stephen College of Education, Kanyakumari, was started in the year 2005 and it aims to be a centre of excellence in education in Tamil Nadu. This is a co-educational institution located in Velayudha Nagar, Kollemcode, to prepare future educators who deserve the best training. The college occupies 5.62 acres of land and is an affiliated college recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education [NCTE], which means quality teacher education. At present, the institution has 90 learners and 10 faculty members to ensure proper training of analytic teachers for schooling.

The college has state of the art facilities that provide a conducive environment for the students on their studies. A modern library and a reading room help students broaden their knowledge with the necessary assistance, and departmental laboratories contribute to the training of practical skills. The college reflects its concern for the well rounded development of its students in sports facilities in particular playgrounds that promote fitness and togetherness. Hostel accommodation is available for those who need it but the school provides different hostels for boys and girls. St. Stephen College of Education offers one primary course, the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) programme is the main subject of discussion in this presented paper. It is a two-year full course and the institution admits only 100 students in this course, which emphasises quality teacher education. The B.Ed programme aims and objectives are to produce trained professional qualified teacher to fit into the teaching profession. Although the college offers only this particular degree at the moment, the designed curriculum covers all aspects required to face the realities of student teaching.
