UPES B.Sc Admissions 2025
Ranked #46 amongst Universities in India by NIRF | 1900+ Students Placed | 94% Placement | 633+ Recruiters | Last Date to Apply: 23rd June
The BS MS integrated programme is a dual degree course in various disciplines of science. It is offered in four subjects: Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, and Physics. However, this course is available only for students completing their 10+2 in the science stream.
Overall, the BS MS integrated course comes as a suitable replacement for a conventional B.Sc. M.Sc. degree. The main difference is that after pursuing a B.Sc., a candidate can choose to take up a different programme in another university, whereas, in the integrated programme, the candidate finishes both UG and PG courses in one go and from the same institute.
BS MS stands for Bachelor of Science - Master of Science. It is an integrated dual degree programme in science that awards both graduate and postgraduate degrees. The course strengthens the core concepts in the disciplines chosen by the students. This is followed by developing expertise in specific topics and preparation of a master's thesis by students.

The criteria for admission in the BS MS course are set by most institutes based on marks obtained in JEE Advanced or the entrance exam of the particular institute. Below, we have provided the BS MS application procedure followed by most colleges in India.
The entrance for BS MS courses is based either upon the JEE score or the entrance exam conducted by respective universities. Some of the exams by the most popular universities are listed below:
IISER Aptitude Test: IISER Aptitude Test is conducted by the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research to provide admissions in integrated BS MS academic programmes. Candidates who applied through SCB are required to appear in the IISER Aptitude Test. Candidates who apply for JEE Advanced or KVPY channel are provided direct admission.
JEE Advanced: JEE Advanced is the abbreviation for Joint Entrance Examination Advanced. It is conducted by one of the seven zonal IITs. Its score is valid for admissions to undergraduate science and technology programmes.
NEST: NEST stands for National Entrance Screening Test. It is annually conducted to provide admissions at the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar, and the Centre of Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS), Mumbai.
The BS MS cutoff is the minimum requirement of percentage, rank, or marks acquired by the candidate in the entrance examination or previously passing examination. It is announced every year during the time of admissions, candidates who have scored higher or equivalent to the cut-off may further participate in counselling to get the seat allotment.

Once a student has completed his or her BS MS dual degree programme, there is a lot of scope for growth in terms of job growth. With most of daily life revolving around technology, there will be a dearth of job and growth opportunities for students who have completed their BS MS programme.
With a BS MS degree, graduates have the option of taking up a Ph.D. in the most prestigious institutes. Students also get fellowship offers from international universities like Harvard and Cal-tech. They can carry on their research while taking up short-term teaching roles in those universities.
After receiving the BS MS dual degree, students have multiple options to advance their careers. Some of the prominent options include
Molecular Biologist: A molecular biologist is an expert who dedicates his or her life to research to decipher complex functions of molecular biology and explore biological laws that govern the operation of each cellular component.
Pharmacist: A pharmacist is a health professional who possesses a strong knowledge of medications. He or she provides advice to patients on the intake of medicines as per the prescriptions of the doctor. A pharmacist is also known as a druggist or chemist.
Scientist: A scientist is a research professional who typically holds a degree in philosophy. He or she studies and researches a specific subject to advance the knowledge and make it available in the public domain. He or she writes research papers based on his or her scientific study.

Yes, you can apply for the BS MS course even though you already have an undergraduate degree. However, science stream (PCM/PCB) in 10+2 is a must.
This wholly depends on the institute you are applying to. However, it is highly unlikely that any of the top institutes would give admission based on the 10+2 marks alone. The institutes either ask for JEE score or the score of their respective entrance tests.
You will be allowed to give the entrance test. However, it is highly unlikely that you will be shortlisted further as the institutes demand a minimum of 60 per cent marks in the board exams. Although it also depends on the institute you are applying to.
Listed below are the top colleges that offer BS MS integrated degree programme
Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Berhampur, IISER Bhopal, IISER Kolkata, IISER Mohali, IISER Pune, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Kanpur), National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar.
You will be awarded the dual degree for BS MS on the completion of this course. This implies that you will get the degrees for both bachelor’s program as well as the post-graduate programme.
With a CRL rank of 381,094 and OBC-NCL rank of 136,581, admission to IIT Patna’s BS-MS program is very unlikely because the cutoffs are much lower. This program is highly competitive. You can consider other state or private engineering colleges where your rank fits better. Improving your rank by preparing for JEE Main again is a good idea. Also, IIT Patna’s BS-MS program requires good board marks and clearing entrance tests like IITP-SAT. Let me know if you want help finding other options!
Hello Aspirant,
If you get admitted into the B.S. program at IIT Madras this year and this year happens to be your first JEE Advanced attempt, then yes, you will remain eligible to take JEE Advanced again next year if you satisfy the other eligibility norms laid down by the conducting authorities of the exam. The important thing is that the candidate gets two chances at JEE Advanced at the most, and these chances have to come within two successive years from the year when they first appeared for the test. Since you are trying for the first time, you have one chance remaining for the next year.
But once you are admitted into an IIT undergraduate course, you cannot sit for JEE Advanced again to get into the same course. But if you are interested in a different course or a double degree (such as B.Tech + M.Tech), you may want to look up the particular rules from the JEE Advanced official website or the IITs.
IISc Bangalore doesn't offer a BS-MS in Physics, but it does offer a BS (Research) in Physics.
2024 Cutoff (General Category):
JEE Advanced: Up to Rank 1,095
JEE Main: Up to Rank 903
IISER Aptitude Test (IAT): Rank 38
For BS-MS in Physics, check IISERs like IISER Pune, not IISc.
Hii,
Yes, you can do MTech in Astronautical Engineering after a BS-MS in Astrophysics (Physics), but it depends on the college.
Most MTech programs in India expect a BTech degree, but some IITs and IISc offer interdisciplinary or research-based MTech/MS programs where Physics students are eligible.
You may need to appear for GATE in Physics (PH).
Always check the specific eligibility criteria of the college you're applying to.
If you’re open to studying abroad, many universities accept Astrophysics students for MS in Aerospace/Astronautics.
Hello,
