Mathematics is a very crucial part of every industry across the globe used in fields like business industry, marketing, engineering, medical field, physics, military, among others. The core mathematics courses across universities provide an insight into scientific and applied mathematics concepts.
The course is highly preferred by students interested in analytical and pattern interpretation among the basic theories of mathematics. It equips students with skills related to geometry, analytical, data interpretation, and analysis, among others.
The course not only provides knowledge about core mathematics concepts but also introduces students to other subjects interlinked with mathematics such as bioinformatics, chemical engineering, finance, analytical science, among others.
And the curriculum focuses on practical applications of the theories and designing real-life protocols of the concepts taught. As the course influences numerous fields, it has become a rather popular choice among Indian youth.
The mathematics courses are present at all levels, and the admission process is quite similar to all other graduation and post graduation courses. The minimum requirements for admission in Mathematics courses are –
For Undergraduate Mathematics Courses
The candidate must have a 10+2 education from the recognised education board. The minimal cut-off might vary different institutes, but the approximated amount is 50%.
Some universities conduct additional entrance exams along with interviews and group discussions, and students should overcome the cut-off released by the university.
Students can also take lateral admission in the universities by crossing the cut-off marks in various national and state-level course-related exams.
For Postgraduate Mathematics Courses
Candidates are required to have a bachelor's degree in the related field completed from a recognised institute.
English and Mathematics should be their major subjects with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks in graduation.
Students might need to clear an additional university level entrance test for admission.
Mathematics Entrance Exams
To get admission in mathematics, students have the option to either give a national/state level exam or university level exam along with the personal interview depending on the institute. The exams conducted for both graduate and postgraduate levels are listed below.

To get seat in any undergraduate course you must pass in all subjects in 10+2 with required minimum marks as per the eligibility criteria. You cannot get admission this year as you have compartment in Mathematics. However, you can get admission after passing in the compartment exam next year.
It depends what you want to do and how much dedicated you are towards your research. The institute gives complete freedom to the research scholars to choose their supervisors and their field of study. It is an excellent place to do research and get your publications. The aforementioned points may not be true for many other universities in India. The scholars are paid well as of now. The funding for their research!!! that is same as other Government institutes. If you join under a funded lab then you can do better, but others could also make use of facilities available from funded labs in VIT. It is one of the few deemed universities which encourages the scholars to come up with innovative ideas. Overall it is a good place to learn and educate yourself, but it depends on your dedication towards your work.
I hope this was helpful. Thank you!
