It is a great institution with fantastic infrastructure spread across 780 acres that is well maintained. The recent mushrooming of satellite centers in various locations is pulling down the value of the main institute. Location and hence attractiveness to quality faculty is another disadvantage.

Quality of student is much better than the college

Batch of 2016 | B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering
The biggest drawbacks of this college is its management which is very poor. The college lacks in quality of faculty, infrastructure and there is zero Industry Exposure. Many students take admission in this college due its ranking in various magazines but actually it is not up to its reputation and ranking.

Infrastructure is very good although mesra,Jaipur campus is located in industrial area with less space and that's why the students hate it . In this campus getting 7.5 above is difficult it means it's absolute grading comparatively based on cgpa according to the given rule . From this institute we can learn discipline, self study, motivation ,dignity. This college also boasts the placement record in ECE,CSE,IT,EEE.

A better place to learn and have exposure.

Batch of 2020 | B.Tech Mechanical Engineering
It has been a great experience for last two years in the college. Initially in the first year it was quite tiresome going to the college and coming back to hostel....and then again going back for the classes. But the examination time has been a great time, studying the night before the exam... But yes as the days passed things became quite good and then intresting. A great place to pursue one's graduation.

A beautiful place to learn and enhance your personality.

BIT Mesra with a beautiful campus of 780 acres, is regularly ranked within the top 15 engineering colleges in India. I'll share my experience, being a student here what I feel. Faculty- Certainly not the best in the country, not even close. Some of the older professors are good but focus less on research. Some of the new professors work hard and make our Engineering life a bit tough. Academic load - It borders between zilch and extremely light. It also varies between departments though. Electrical and Electronics was pretty well taught and rigorous, whereas CSE has a little less work to do. Electrical department has some very strict profs. Mechanical department is refreshingly hands on and students gain a very good practical understanding. Students and Peer Group Probably the highlight of the institute is the quality of student intake. Due to the rankings being consistently in the top 15 or so, the student intake is the high rankers of the JEE Mains. From an intellectual section of the society, student here are amongst the cream of the country. It is no surprise that the institute boasts of a pretty strong Alumni network, and the college is now beginning to realize this potential in its placements. Student Activities Given that all these bright minds have little or no academic work to take care of, the vent they find to their intellectual and creative pursuits finds expression in a vibrant student activity scene. There are student clubs will organize a plethora of events and fests ranging all across the spectrum. Cultural as well as technical pursuits are taken up by the students with fervor. Any technical proficiency that a student may acquire during his time here, is almost entirely down to the events and fests organized by clubs. Facilities I would say the facilities (sports, labs, infra) are about at par with the NIT's. Right now the campus is undergoing a renovation and the class rooms are being upgraded. The college has LAN in all the rooms as well the campus has been turned into a wi-fi zone. Most important we have "DC" here. Placements Due to the location, placements were not really something the institute could really brag about until after about 2006-07 onward. Nowadays, placements are quite stunning and companies like Facebook have offered mega packages and overseas jobs to a few students. In terms of quantity, placements have always been almost 100% with everyone landing some kind of job, and about 30% of the students end up with multiple offers. All in all, it is not a bad place to go to if you are looking for more life lessons than course lessons. The institute may not be a production line for techies and world-beaters, but it does have a track-record for producing well-rounded individuals, many of whom have done well for themselves in the industry.

About College:

The Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) in Mesra is one of the best-known engineering colleges in the country. It is located in the state of Jharkhand, just adjacent to the city of Ranchi, which is the state capital. It was founded in the year 1955 by one of the then-patriarchs of the Birla industrialist family. It has a flourishing 980-acre main campus. The BIT Mesra has set up extension centres in several cities within the country located in Kolkata, Allahabad, Patna, Noida, Deoghar and in Ranchi. It even has two international extension centres in the Middle East region. There are at Ras-Al-Khaimah in the UAE and in Muscat, the capital of Oman.

En number of courses are available for study here at the BIT Mesra campus. They are available straight from the UG till the doctoral levels. At the UG level, the programmes may broadly be divided into the areas of engineering, architecture, pharmacy, hotel management and the sciences. For architecture and pharmacy, the single B. Arch and B. Pharm. programmes may be pursued. For hotel management, it is the BHMCT (Bachelors in Hotel Management and Catering Technology). The sciences are available in the format of an integrated MSc. They may be pursued in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Computing and in Food Technology. The B.E may be pursued in the areas of Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Production Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and in Electronics and Communication Engineering.

At the PG level, the courses become more specialized, thus the preponderance in terms of the number of options. The ME programmes are available in the fields of – Structural Engineering, Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, Automated Manufacturing Systems, Computer Aided Analysis and Design (CAAD), Control Systems, Power Systems, Power Electronics, Software Engineering, Space Engineering and Rocketry and in some conventional areas. The BIT Mesra was, in fact, the first college in India where academic programmes were launched for the study of space engineering and rocketry. The options available for the MTech programmes are in – Biotechnology, Remote Sensing, Environmental Science and Engineering, Bio-Medical Instrumentation, Information Science, Information Technology and for Nano Science and Technology. The M.Pharm programme can be pursued for the fields of – Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy, Clinical Research and for Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs. One last area with a plethora of options is the MSc. This may be taken up for the areas of- Applied Physics, Applied Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Bio Technology, Bio Informatics, Geo-Informatics, Information Science and in Food Technology. One-off courses are also available for MBA, MCA and MUP (Master of Urban Planning).

The BIT Mesra has also been a pioneer when it comes to forging international alliances for academic and research collaborations. These kinds of collaborations stretch with academic partners form the USA, UK, Denmark, Canada and France. Some of the key collaborators are- Aalborg University, Purdue University, University of Leeds, the University of New Brunswick and the University of Houston, besides with others. Research is another key area at the BIT Mesra. There are internal research initiatives. But most prolific are the industry-sponsored research projects taken up. The funding agencies for these projects have been the likes of UGC, CIL, AICTE, Visa Power, Lanco Coal Company, Essar, DST and Tata Steel among others. The task for the upgrade of the Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi was taken up by the Department of Architecture here at the BIT Mesra.

All this has led to the institute being ranked favourably across platforms. It was ranked as the 26th best in the NIRF (National Institutional Rankings Framework) 2018 among the engineering colleges. In the same rankings, it got placed 66th overall and 43rd among universities. The MBA programme was ranked 23rd in the country by NIRF, which also ranked the pharmacy programme at 20th in India. Such favourable rankings have further boosted up the placements’ scenario here.
