See both the colleges are good but not Calicut is slightly better than nit Surat. Now between VLSI and EDT. EDT is basically a specialisation offered by nit Calicut . Most parts are sahted with VLSI . So either of it is good. 

So you can join nit Calicut because you will get a better environment and also you will get better culture than nit Surat.
