Hello aspirant!
Thanks for sharing your details.
Unfortunately, for General category candidates, the minimum eligibility for admission into NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs through JEE Mains is 75% marks in Class 12 or being in the top 20 percentile of your board (whichever is lower).
Since you have 74%, you fall just short of the 75% rule. However, if your board’s top 20 percentile cutoff is lower than 74%, you might still be eligible. You'll need to check the CBSE/State Board top 20 percentile cutoff for 2024 or 2025, once it’s published.
With 86.4 percentile, your CRL rank would be around 1.3 to 1.5 lakh, approximately. For NIT Calicut, being a well-ranked and in-demand NIT, the cutoff for General category students is usually much higher (percentiles above 97 for CSE and above 92–95 even for lower branches like Production or Civil). So, with your percentile, it’s very unlikely to get NIT Calicut, especially in general category.
So to conclude:
-
You may not be eligible for NITs unless the top 20 percentile rule works in your favor.
-
Even if eligible, your chances at NIT Calicut are very low with this percentile.
-
You should explore other options like private colleges that accept JEE scores, state counselling, or universities like Shiv Nadar, UPES, or Amrita, where your score might still help.
All the best!
