National Institute of Technology Calicut, NIT Calicut or NITC is one of the 31 institutions under the NIT Act 2007 which is fully funded by the Government of India. It was established as Calicut Regional Engineering College in 1961 and later transformed into NIT Calicut in 2002. The institute offers bachelor's, master's and degree programmes in different streams of Science, Engineering, Technology, and Management. The undergraduate courses offered include B.Tech in various engineering fields and B.Arch. The list of postgraduate courses includes M.Tech, M.Sc., M.C.A, M.B.A, and M.Plan. Ph.D programmes are available in different engineering and science streams. NIT Calicut is presently offering 10 UG programmes with a total intake of 5812 and 30 PG programmes with a total intake of 666. NIT Calicut is ranked 25th in the Engineering category and 2nd in the Architecture category in the NIRF Ranking 2021 while it ranked 23rd in the Engineering category and 3rd in the Architecture category in the NIRF Ranking 2020.
Admission to undergraduate courses is done based on the rank in JEE Main. The M.Tech students are admitted based on GATE scores, the M.C.As through NIMCET scores and the admission to the M.Sc programme is done through an entrance exam conducted by the institute. The Ph.D candidates are interviewed on the basis of their GATE/JEST/NET/NBHM qualifications. NIT Calicut has a rich faculty community that predominantly consists of Ph.D holders involved in teaching and research. At present, there are 193 faculty members in the cadre of Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor. The institute has a large non-teaching staff who runs administrative, laboratory, maintenance and estate units smoothly.

NIT Calicut arranges various extracurricular activities around the year. It has several NIT Calicut clubs and committees run by the students of the institute. NIT Calicut admission procedures for the B.Tech, B.Arch, M.Tech, M.Sc, M.C.A., M.B.A., MCA, M.Plan and PhD programmes include entrance exams in some programmes.
NIT Calicut scholarships are for deserving students and for the candidates who are not able to pursue their education due to financial challenges. The institute offers Merit cum Means scholarships to poor and deserving students belonging to minority communities whose annual family income is not more than 2.5 lakhs. The marks of the candidate should not be less than 50%. The hosteler will get financial assistance of Rs. 30,000 per annum and the day scholar will get financial help of Rs. 25,000 per year. Candidates can apply for the NIT Calicut scholarship NSP portal and upload the required documents for verification. It is mandatory that an income certificate is issued by the competent authority. NIT Calicut also offers e-grants to all the post-matric students of OBC, SC, ST as well as economically weaker sections of society in the state of Kerala. It is only applicable for people whose parents are permanently residing in Kerala.
NIT Calicut placement committee holds a placement drive every year to help students get job offers from reputed companies. The Centre for Training and Placement makes students from different programmes aware of the job opportunities available. Students can check out the list of current recruiters and past placements on the institute’s official website. In the year 2019-20, 133 companies from different sectors of engineering, management, hospitality, banking and health participated in the NIT Calicut placement drive. Yes, non-CSE people do get placed in IT companies.
1. If you are not interested in Chemical or Metallurgy then it is better to choose to NIT Trichy. You will have excellent exposure to great faculties, good access to internship and placements.
2. For getting into Software companies you will have to learn programming, and work hard to maintain your CGPA as well. You can do internships that align with your interests in software. That way you can improve your experience in this field and get a really good chance of getting placed in a good software companies with great package.

91 is a respectable percentile, however it is not enough to make into NIT Calicut, due to OBC and homestate quota, he may get some other lower branches like production engineering or something of that sort, getting CSE or electrical related branches is not going to be possible

IIIT Allahabad (ECE) - Pretty good in terms of course curriculum and quality of education. The faculty is also well experienced. Focus is given to the practical application of knowledge. ECE labs are well equipped. Placement is also nice. Companies like TCS, Infosys, Amazon, and Microsoft visit the campus for recruitment and internship purposes.
IIIT Lucknow (CSE) - In terms of infrastructure and placement, the institute is good. The placement percentage is 100% with the highest CTC of INR 43 lakhs per annum and an average CTC of INR 18.42 lakhs per annum.
NIT Calicut- Also good in terms of curriculum and placement. Higher CTC was of INR 67 lakhs per annum and the average CTC of INR 12 lakhs per annum.
NIT Warangal ( EEE) - Highest CTC in EEE was of INR 32.5 lakhs per annum and an average CTC was of INR 12 lakhs per annum.
